OpenVPN Connect is the “official” app from the OpenVPN Inc. and is intended to be more user-friendly VPN users with minimal technical expertise. It is, therefore, less loaded than openvpn for Android which is designed for more advanced OpenVPN users.

Openvpn for Android is a free and open source client developed by Arne Schwabe that lets you connect to any VPN service that supports the OpenVPN protocol. If your device isn’t compatible the pre-configured VPN applications that are available in the Google Play Store, this is an excellent alternative. The setup is fairly simple. You’ll need to import your VPN profile files (the config files have an extension of.ovpn) which you can obtain from the website of your provider or by contacting their live chat support team.

After you’ve imported your profile, tap on the server to connect. Once connected then your Internet traffic is directed via a secure channel to the server that you have selected in the app. The Status tab lets you see your connection’s details as well as status. The kill switch is enabled by default. It will disable your internet connection when the VPN tunnel drops.

The app also has per-app VPN and an automatic feature that automatically activates the VPN connection openvpnandroid.com/improved-analytics-for-data-structuring-as-a-new-feature-of-vdr-providers/ when the app is in use and continues to operate even after your device is shut down or switches networks. The latter however requires Android 7.0 or higher, and can drain your battery more than usual.
